- In olden times the people grew their own flax, which they manufactured into linen.
When the flax was ripe it was pulled and scutched and afterwards steeped for about a fortnight and then it was dried. Next, it was hackled by drawing it through a hackling machine. Then it was tied into bundles and spun into linen thread, which was brought to the weaver, who made it into the most beautifully-designed sheets and(continues on next page)- Collector
