- Sparrows, robins, thrushes, jays, wagtails, pigeons, blackbirds and starlings are the commonest birds in the district. The sparrows nest in the thick hedges. the blackbirds make nests in thick clumps of briars and it is almost impossible to discern the nest, as it is almost the same colour as the briars that surround it. The jays build their nests in an old bush.(continues on next page)
