grated them this is how they made stampy bread.That kind of bread is not made now.They baked the bread on a stone in the hearth .The cross that is put on top of the cake is to allow the gas to escape. - They had bread made from Indian meal ,and wheaten flour long ago.They used to grind the wheat themselves at home with two big stones.They were round stones with a hole in the middle of each.It was smoothed(continues on next page)
