- Shrove is the time in which most people get married. Wednesday is supposed to be the best day of the week. Long ago matches used be made for people and fortunes give sometimes cattle would be give in stead of money. In olden times people used be married in their own house.
In was considered unlucky for the bride to fit her dress or hat the day before she would be married or to sing or cry on the day of her marriage.
They used to have great wedding feast. They would set a large table out in the barn and have all sorts of meat especially geese and large pots of rice.
The guests would arrive early in the day.
There would be a fiddler hired for the occasion and the people would feast and dance all night until next morning.
