Holy Wells.
There are two holy wells in this parish, one called St. John the Baptist and the other after St. Sennan. There is a beautiful little well in Mc Namara's field on the border of this parish.
It is said that it sprang out of a big rock on the side of the hill. The people say that it was St Ita's well. Footprints are to be seen on the little flags around the well. People used to make rounds there up to a few years ago. It is
said that many people who used to get headaches were cured by drinking the water. There are little statues and crosses of rosary beads to be seen there still. They are laid down on the grass and on the rock. St. Ita was a Limerick nun.
The well in Ballycannon is St. Sennan's well. It is said that a man cut down a tree that sheltered the well and next morning the well with the same tree growing beside it was changed to the other side of the road. Rounds used to be done there and many little faded pictures and pieces of clothe may still be seen there.
