  1. Long ago there were two ancient schools in this parish, one in Glenagross, and the other in Meelick
    Short blocks of timber cut from wood left rough not planed and rough boards about eight feet long were used as desks. They had no seats to sit on so they had to go on their knees to write. The windows in this school were small and so it was badly ventilated. Owing to the smallness of the glass in the window panes the windows couldn't be opened. The school contained five of those little windows, two at the side, and two at the back and one at the end. Children far away were allowed off an hour earlier than the children who were convenient to the school. The school master generally sat on a sugán chair which he roughly made for himself.
