- This forge was built in the year 1812. It is situated on the border of Clare and Limerick
It was formerly owned by a man of the name of Michael Browne who emigrated to the U. S. A. in the year 1843. It was then taken over by Patrick Liston who laboured as a blacksmith for one year Then he gave it to his brother Jerry, who lived there until he was 77 years. His son Jack got his trade from his father and is there still.
The blacksmith has a lot of tools which include a bellows, anvil, vice, sledges, and hammers, punches, chisels, wrenches, prickel, fuller, hardy, rasp, knife, pinchers, set, float, trammel, screwplate, water-trough, coal, iron, nails and shoeing flag. The present blacksmith shod ten bullocks and two cows for Mr Goggin and Mr Ryan, Lower Meelick. The way he shod them was to get a pony's shoe and cut it in the centre. He put half on each side on each "crub".
