    St. Brigid's night has always been observed as a very special feast. Long ago many customs took place on that night, but now most of these are forgotten.
    My uncle told me that when he was a little boy they used to gather the green rushes on St. Brigid's Eve and make them into crosses. The youngest boy or girl knelt on the threshold bearing the crosses. They knocked thrice at the door and recited a prayer. Those
