- St. Stephen's day is one of the greatest days of sport in Ireland. On that day a crowd of young boys gather together and go around from house to house gathering money in honour of the wren. When they have all the money gathered, and all the houses visited they go into the neighbouring town and buy drink for the money they have gathered. The wren boys are oftentimes in great danger of losing their lives when travelling lonely roads and mountains at any our of the night. I myself was often amongst the wren boys but I did not join them this year.
