- Away back in the middle of the last century, when the exiles of Ireland were pouring into America, the following poem was written. The famous 69th regiment was parading the streets of New York one 4th of July, American Independence Day - and its band played "St. Patrick's Day" and "Garryowen". The well loved Irish airs, played in exile, brought many folk to the wind.
