- About two thousand and five hundred years ago, a famous Greek scholar found sea-shells on a hilltop in Sicily, and he wondered how they had come to be there. Shell-fish, he knew, are found only at the seaside or in the river beds. The scholar thought hard and said "This hill top must have been under the sea once". He was right. Men of science have proved that the land where he found sea shells was covered by the ocean long ago.
