- Baskets were made by many people in the olden times. Thomas Duggan who lives in Tacumshane still makes them from black sallies.
He gets a sally 2 inches thick and halves it. He makes both of them in the shape of a half moon. He then twists two smaller sallies to make the handles. To form the rim of the basket he secures some smaller sallies which he splits in two. When all the sallies are in their proper form he wattles them together and very soon the basket is made.
In autumn he is very busy making potato-baskets for the farmers before the potato season. He sells them at half-(continues on next page)- Collector
