Marnell was driven from his estate. He settled in County Sligo leaving his youngest son at Marnellsgrove to be brought up by the wife of one of his former tenants. I an the descendant of that son.
The lands of Marnellsgrove, the Pound Field, and the lands of Lower Ballyglass, extending mid way between Kilcroan Graveyard and Kilcroan National School in the year 1857 were purchased by Thomas Loyde Baggot, who lived at the Hermitage, Ballymoe, he giving £3,750 for same land.
After purchasing these estates Baggot evicted the following tenants, Mick Flynn, Hedge School master, Marnell, Hedge SchoolMaster, and P Grorke. They lived in Cottages(continues on next page)
