“Long ago the people lived in a more homely way than nowadays.”
Long ago the people lived in a more homely way than nowadays.
They made oaten cakes potato cakes and boxty cakes.
They had small handmills which they made meal with. When they were making oatmeal cakes they mixed the meal with water and they made it into a cake.
Then they set it before the fire to bake.
The cake was supported by a little stand with three legs two in front and one behind. They also make pancakes on St. Brigid's night.
Some people baked bread on two leaves of cabbage, one under the cake and the other over it. When the leaves were burned two more were put in their places. Boxty bread was made of raw(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
