If the people of the house were poor they often carried the corpse on their shoulders or sometimes they borrowed a neighbour's car. The chief mourner usually sat on top of the coffin. There was an old woman picked out for crying. The woman usually got some whiskey before she left the corpse-house. The she started to "leo leo" while the other women helped. This was continued the whole way to the graveyard. This wailing or "leo leo" was supposed to show respect to the dead.
If it was a young girl that died the mother stepped three times across the grave. This was supposed to lessen her grief.
