- The people, long ago, had no houses like we have now. Instead they had sod houses and also timber houses.
Sod houses were more common than the timber houses.
There used to be two windows in each house.
The sort of door they used to have was a big straw mat, put up in the door-way, to keep out the cold and rain. They used to put a big bundle of rushes in the opening for the windows.
