  1. The Newtown big house was burned down about twelve years ago. It was occupied by a gamekeeper Thomas O'Connor. He was in the parish of Ardagh in the Barony of Tyrawley. It was fully furnished and it is supposed that it was he that burned it. They say he was smoking his pipe. There was a tin of petrol near him and a bit of lit tobacco fell into the tin and lit it. Then the whole place went on fire.
