- A Story of the Penal DaysDuring the Penal days there was a widow woman named Mrs Hughes who lived near Deelcastle on the east side of Lough Conn in the parish of Knockmore , County Mayo . Deelcastle belonged to a race of people named Ormsbys who were priest hunters .
This Mrs Hughes had a son named Pat. Deelcastle goes by the name of Castlegore at present. The castle was burned down in the time of the Black and Tans . The Ormsbys were landlords as well as gentlemen .They liked this son of Mrs Hughes's very well .One day young Ormsby had a conversation with Mrs Hughes and he advised her son sent away for the priesthood.He told her that all travelling expenses would be paid by him.
