   She lays from twelve to eighteen eggs. The eggs are smaller than the robin's eggs. and they are of the small colour.

   The yellow hammer builds her nest in a ditch, or on a hazel bush, or on a white thorn bush. She builds her nest like the robin builds it. She lays four eggs. They are about the same size and colour as the robin's eggs.

   The swallow builds her nest in an old stable or in the eave of a slated house, or on the bank of a river. She builds her nest with wet clay, and hair, and feathers. When she starts building her nest she goes out very early in the morning gathering wet clay. When the day begins to get warm she stops making her nest so that it will set with the heat of the sun. She does that every day until she has her nest finished with clay. Then she puts feathers in it, and she lays her eggs. She lays four eggs. She sits three weeks on the eggs.
