A Local Song
“There's a river pure that runs along by the side of Clogheen Road, It's source they say is ten miles away from the bridge of sweet Lismore.”
I
There's a river pure that runs along by the side of Clogheen Road,
It's source they say is ten miles away from the bridge of sweet Lismore
It laughs and leaps sings many a song and tumbles o’er the rocks along
Till lost to view in the Avon Dew by the Castle of Lismore.II
It comes from the vallies between the two mountains the fame Knockmealdown and the Comeraghs too
Through bridges “go leor” I’m sure a half score
Till lost out of sight in the Avon Dew.III
To stroll by its banks on a fine Summer’s morn, and list to those warbler the Blackbird and thrush
With all other fair warbles oh ‘tis enchanting to hear the sweet note from every bush.IV
By those banks I have strayed in the days of my childhood(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
