- Every religion in the world has feasts which they observe during the year, but the Catholic Church has the most. Christmas, the feast of the Nativity, is the prime and most important feast of the whole year. The church celebrates one of her greatest triumphs and everybody, especially the children, amuse and enjoy themselves on that day. St. Stephen's Day immediately follows Christmas Day, and on that day children go around singing and gathering the wren. As both St. Patrick and St. Brigid are Irish saints their feasts are strictly observed by us, the former being a holiday of obligation. Processions take place in almost every town in Ireland in honour of St. Patrick, on his feast March 17th.
