  1. Once upon a time there was a ship called the Donegal. She was on a voyage from Sydney to Waterford. She was loaded with salt. When she was about half-way across a great storm arose. The crew were heavily weather beaten for about ten months. However they weathered along. The ship held good until the came near the River Suir. The crew had no food for a long time. Just as they sighed land the seas became unbearable. The crew were exhausted from long-fasting. They rounded the Hook in a terrible state. They could not get a pilot on account of the gale. The captain was a stranger and did not know his way up the river. However he tried to scramble up the harbour. As ill luck had it the wind was dead against them. The ship was to beat up tack for tack. She was tacking towards Creaden Head as the gale increased. They were close to the when captain gave orders to stay the
