For my name is Sally from Brackagh Valley
And my rural cot is in Taplagh Town
Her learned father was a titled baron
    ------------------------------
And she had an uncle of high degree,
And by his mission he became physician
and Inspector General to Her Majesty.
The estates of Blayney to her ancestors belonged of old
Till dire oppression, void of discretion for a long succession to our island rolled.

Petie was a fine old character, a highly intelligent man who was always sought after in the local 'Ceilidhe' houses as a storyteller and singer of traditional ballads commemorating local events. Petie may be said to have been the last survivor of his type in the district of Castleblayney. He died some twelve years ago. He was unmarried, and it is said to think that they hay loft attached to his farmhouse is now a licensed dancing hall.
    Author of the Song:-
The composer was a man named Duffy, a hedge-schoolmaster
