Most of the socks and stockings worn by the people in this district are knitted by the women themselves. The women, during their spare time always knit and it is wonderful to see how quickly they can do it. The needles fly-click, click, click, is all that is heard and when these home made garments are finished they are as good and sometimes better than those which can be displayed in any shop window. there is one poor woman who earns her living by knitting.
When a person dies the relatives wear black until after the funeral. Then they wear a mourning badge on the left arm of their coats. There is an old saying about what a woman should wear when getting married. It is-:
Marry in red, you wish yourself dead.
Marry in blue, love ever true
Marry in black, you wish yourself back,
Marry in green, you are ashamed to be seen
Marry in yellow you are ashamed of your fellow(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
