- Farm Animals.
The small farmers in this district usually have 2 or 3 milk cows and half a dozen in all of calves & heifers and bullocks.
Cows are called "Sissie", "Daisy" and "Girlie". In driving the farmer says "Hip, hip" or "go wan aye at".
Bedding:- Thrashed straw, old thatch & ferns.
Tying :- Cows are tied by a rope called a buaran. This is placed round neck and secured by putting end with large knot on it through a loop. The buaran is attached to an iron or wooden post driven in ground and fastened to wall of byre.
Holy water, rush crosses made on St Brigid's Eve and "palms" from Palm Sunday are placed in byre.
