- The people in olden times has nothing but thatched houses. Before the people could begin to thatch the house a great many bryers had to be gathered first, and then these had to be left to dry and harden. After these were nice and dry then all the little sharp sprigs were scraped off with a sharp knife, and each end had to have a sharp point so that they would easily run into the thatch and hold it firm for a long time. Before the thatch was put on the roof was prepared by putting the wattles on first and then the scraws were laid on the top and then the thatch was put on. Then the bryers were put in and out through the thatch. A number were put upwards and downwards(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
