The house that was thatched with rushes they would stay on for nearly a year or more and if a house was thatched with flax it would stay on for nearly twenty years if it was well put on.
Every man could not thatch his own house. There were some men could thatch better than others. If any person wanted their house thatched well they would go to the thatchers house and ask him to come and thatch it for him. These thatchers made their living by doing this work.
