- On 4th December 1811 an English warship named the Saldana was shipwrecked in Lough Swilly, inside "Carraic O'Donnell" rock, two miles south of Portsalon - of where Portsalon Hotel now stands. This warship had on board 700 of a crew, but only one was saved. He swam ashore to Stocker but died a few hours later. The hull of the ship lies about one hundred fathoms deep.Any of this crew that were not identified or on whose bodies nothing was found to show their religion, were buried on the land beside where they were found. There was a song made on this shipwreck. These are a few lines of it:-One man out of seven hundred
The storm did withstand,
He swam alive to Stocker
And died upon the land.(Denis McLaughlin, Leophin, heard the story from his father about 30 years ago)- Bailitheoir
