- On 8th August 1842 a rowing boat from Glenvar, on Lough Swilly, with two of a crew went to Doaghbeg and lifted fifteen passengers going to the English harvest. This boat intended to leave these men at Fahan Point as there was no train from Buncrana to Derry. They had got only as far as Ballinary (3 miles from Buncrana) when a sudden storm arose which capsised the boat and the fifteen passengers were lost. The owner of the boat and his son were saved, as they clung to the side of the boat. The bodies of the drowned men were washed in on Rathmullen shores.
