Sometimes when people suffered from a sore throat they would turn their left stocking out-side-in when they were going to bed and pin it around their neck. Next morning the sufferer would not have any pain.
Ripple Grass or a leaf of tobacco applied to a wound were noted for keeping a cut from festering.
The people often went to Holy Wells for cures and often after going around the well three times and repeating the Rosary each time the pain would vanish. It was usual for these Holy Wells to be visited on a Friday morning and it was the rule to go fasting.
