In the year 1919 a terrible disease called the black-fever broke out and the doctors were not able to cure the people. Somebody then suggested that the people should make a promise to God, and this was agreed to.
The promise was that they should not take meat or its products on St. Stephen's Day. As soon as they did this the plague ceased and they kept the promise from that day forth.- Bailitheoir
