- About sixty-four years ago, Micheal Hanly, Feeragh, Caherlistrane, Co.Galway, was able to make lime. There was a lime-kiln about four hundred yards from his house. This is the way he used to make it. First of all he used to put a line of stones round the bottom of the kiln and a line of turf on top of them.
He used to put every second row of turf and stones until about six rows were completed. Then he used to set fire to the bottom of the kiln and the lime would commence to burn. It used to keep burning for two days and two nights and at that time the lime used to be made.- Bailitheoir
