- The houses in which the people lived long ago were a lot different from the houses of the present day. There was no such thing as white wash or slates.
The houses of long ago were made of stuff called daub. It was to be found under clay especially where bogland was. The roofs were thatched with straw or rushes.
Long ago the people used to have beds in a corner of the kitchen. An old woman used to sleep in them. Those beds were called a "Cailleac". they were made of wood and they were very comfortable.
The fire place was made against the gable end of the house. There were no chimneys but they had a hole in the roof of the house to let the smoke out. They put stones round the hole to prevent the thatch from getting burned.
There was an only door in the house and they bolted it with a wooden bolt which was on to the door.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
