- The Local Fairs30 - 11 - '37The local fairs are held in Banagher and Eyrecourt. They are always held in towns. Buyers often transacted business int he country at crossroads or farmers' houses but now they do not.There are fairs held at Clonfert fouroads which have now being discontinued. It is most convenient to bring the cattle to the towns on account of the railways. The fairs are generally held on the streets. It is generally held on the street of Banagher, except the September fair which is held in the fair green.Luck money is given, from a half crown to a crown, it is called luck penny. The parties show their agreement in the bargain by striking hands. The animals are marked with raddle or by a bit of hair cut off with a scissors.
