    children. He was allowed to use a waste house provided by some agreeable farmer as a class-room.
    In my district this was also the custom. Jack Swinley, or he was later styled "Jack of the Bog" taught in the house provided by Martin Feely. This house is still standing and is used as a byre. It is situated on the main road through Derrinloughan. This teacher instead of being paid had to be provided with free board and lodging in the district where he taught. He used to lodge for a time with each pupil. After Jack had resigned from his duties, Joseph Mc Nulty became school-master.
