- In the days that are gone that is the recent past there was a number of old people - men and women - who made cures for numbers of diseases in both people and cattle. There was the cure of the sprain, rose, or what is locally known as the anycyptis[?] in this district, also toothache, mumps, warts and jaundies and in cattle elfshot or ill shot. Those cures were made by special herbs, fresh butter, silver, copper holy water, special cotton strings and blessed cords, special ceremonies and special prayer and other rites and ceremonies. Each individual had the cure of some disease and the cure was handed down from father to son and from mother to daughter and was supposed to be hereditary in some cases.
