Local Poems
“On the 18th of August being the date of the year...”
On the 18th of August being the date of the year
I met a man called one John Foy, and him in no great cheer.
With his head hung down, and to the ground
Like a hound, upon a trace
Inquiring of all people did they see his little "baste"He travelled to Dromahair, and from that to old New Town where once there was a fair
From that to Ballahare, From that he travelled home
Coming home at Gasture
He sat down still to draw his will
He scarce had laid down his pen
When he was alarmed with a roar, on the top of Harry's Hill. So he got his ass that day on grass
On the top of Harry's Hill.
With kicks, and blows, and rapid oaths
And prayers that were not good
He brought her back to Biddy
One side of the oak wood.
