The potatoes are sown in ridges. The ridges are about one foot wide and thirty feet in length. A spade is usually uses. Wooden ploughs were never used. Spades are brought in a Shop. The potatoes are first cut into seed with an eye in each seed. The local people help one another in sowing the potatoes.. One person has a mehill, and a crowd of people will come to him, and the man that had the mehill has to come to each of them men. The potatoes moulded twice, and when the stalks appear they are sprayed. The potatoes are dug with a spade. The Children pick the potatoes from the earth. The big potatoes are picked from the small potatoes, and are put in heaps. The various kinds of potatoes are Arran banners, Kerr pinks, and Epicures. Kerr pinks grow best in the district. Potatoes were used instead of starch long ago.
