- Long ago people believed that they should not leave their homes on Saturday and go to live in another house.
They also believed that they should have the potatoes planted before Good Friday. They also believed that if it rained on St. Swithen's day it would rain for forty days and forty nights. Some people say that on the day of Saint Swithen's funeral it rained so much that they could not bury him. It continued raining for forty days and forty nights at the end of which he was burried.
The old people believed that no person should go near water on St. Swithen's day as it was an unlucky day.- Bailitheoir
