The late William Doyle of Canal Bridge, Drumshanbo, father of Luke Doyle, Balintra, was a great poet and composer. He composed many songs and ballads. He wrote many songs and stories for "Old Moore's Almanic also. He composed a song about Carrick-na-brack and another about Forde's Castle. He also composed one called "Come to me" and numerous others. He wrote a funny ballad about Drumshanbo in which he said.
"There are Highlands in the hollows"
And Floods upon the hill
Our Campbells have no humps,
And Our Friars have no huts
We have Masons making bonnets
