- There are several kinds of birds in Ireland, The song thrush is a very useful bird as he rids the garden of snails. We are told by the poet Browning that the thrush sings each song twice over, and in the same persevering spirit he hammers each snail snail not twice but many times and goes on hammering it against some stone until he has hammered the shell to fragments. Then he eats the snail and flies off to find another.
The very tiniest of our birds, the golden crested wren had been proved to feed very largely on destructive parsits called the American blight. We also have two kinds of Owls, the barn Owl and the long eared Owl and both of them live almost entirely on rats and mice.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
