    woman of house closed the doors and told the visitor to "be off". Well he said "I suppose I was as well" and started but he didn't go far when he turned and went back ; he looked in on the window. The old woman was standing beside an alcove from which she extracted a "dead hand". This she banged into the churn and chanted the following "Gather! gather near and far and all you gather bring it here" and in this way she obtained all the butter in the area.
