   The strains of Irish music sweet,
   My spirits did enthral,
   I thought I had entered fairy-land
   or some Celestial hall.
   Where handsome youths and pretty
   girls were dancing all around.
   At reels and jigs and
   hornpipes, they carcely touched
   the ground.
   The latest styles and fashions
   were displayed.
   While peerless pins and rubies
   adorned each comely maid.
   The fairest maid I met that day,
   from ancient Limerick came
