- There was a man living in Aughavas who was a great Poet. His name was Thomas Gilfillian. He lived in the townland of Aughavas and was born there. He was about seventy four years of age when he died,. He was buried beside Croghan, Co Roscommon.
Among the poems he made is one called "Lantry and Munroe". It is about two men who got drunk in Carrigallen. The police arrested them and they said that their names were Bernard Lantry and Jack Munroe. Thomas Gilfillan did not know Irish. he was a good scholar. He was a farmer.
Lantry and Munroe.
I'll sing of two young fellows who lately changed their names,
They did a depredation; Of course it was a shame,
They went into Carrigallen and drank a pint or two
And when returning home the both began to loo.
The names that they have been christened, don't tell them if you know
But the ones that they adopted were Lantry and Munroe.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
