He looked out on the window and he saw a blaze where the carriage was. The blaze died down, but there was no sign of the carriage. Sweeney spent the rest of the night praying. In the morning when he went to look at Eager's books they were gone. This carriage always followed Eager's books.One night Sweeney was coming from Carrigallen. When he came out of the town a big black day came up to him and followed him. Sweeney made a kick at him but he did not hit him. He made the sign of the cross and the dog disappeared.
