  1. I often heard my grand-father saying that when he was a young man he was out walking one moon light night. He was returning about three miles from home when he met a dog. He thought at first the dog might have been his own dog, but no. The dog behaved strange. Grand-father called the dog, but the dog only stood erect and grand-father became partly frightened. He moved towards the ditch or wall to get a stone to fling at the dog. However he did not fling the stone but sloped quietly away. Grand-father was convinced it was not a natural dog. And he realised that fully when within two days he got a severe fit of illness lasting weeks. He recovered; and ever afterwards he told that story, always believing the dog was not a natural dog. He always told also that he heard his father (that is my great-grand-father) say that the same thing happened him.
