Cairbre's descendants ruled this district for several centuries, furnishing one monarch of Ireland, Tuathal Maelgarb, grandson of Cairhbre, the descendants of the other brother furnishing no less than 45 kings of Ireland. It was not until the thirteenth century that the OConnors settled in Cabury. They then ruled the district until defeated by the Cinel-Connell, or Nothermen, at the battle of Crick-Cairbre, after which the latter held sway for about two centuries.
