- There are many forts in the school district they number about ten in all. There is one in Cooga which is bordering Cartron it is known as "Lisheen'. There are five in Leaffoney in view of each other. There is another in Rathlee from which the village got its nameThey are all circular in shape and there are trees growing around some of them, while others are bare with grey stones on top. There is an entrance hole to one in Leaffoney no one has gone down to view the interior. Forts are never found in damp places, they were always made in dry places and on hills.The Danes were supposed to have built these forts for places of refuge long ago. On Lisheen fort there are said to be fairies living and are said to dance at certain hours of the night. The owner of Lisheen Fort never ploughed it or planted crops on it. The fort is too high up and also there are bushes growing on it. Besides it is thought unlucky to interefere with these forts.There is a fort in Lakenslevia in this parish which has an entrance passage down to two room. There is a large rock beside the fort which has a hole under it where people enter. Several people have gone down and afterwards have described the interior. There is a well in the first room in the centre of the flour, around the four walls there is a narrow path made of stones, at one corner(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
