  1. In olden times the people ate three meals a day. - breakfast, dinner and supper. The started work early in the morning -generally about eight but in the busy season they began much earlier. It was usual to do a couple of hours work before breakfast which consisted of porridge made from Indian meal or oatmeal.
    About two o'clock they had their dinner. Potatoes, buttermilk and salt was the chief fare at this meal.
