The evening meal was potatoes and butter-milk. They sat at a table pulled out on the middle of the floor. Noggins were used to drink the milk out of. These were made of wood.
Meat was not used. Fowl was used at set times Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick's day and on Sundays, now and again. They used to make pan-caked on the night before Ash Wednesday. This night was called Seraft night.
Every farmer brought oats to the mill to have oat-meal made, and they brought home mill-seeds, which they steeped for days and then drained the water off. Then it was boiled until it thickened and it was considered a nice dish. (gan teideal)
